About Morthland > Quick Facts
The foundations of what would become Morthland College began in late 2008 and early 2009 when members of the West Frankfort community began to discuss the development of a Christian College, formed in the old classical model. The Board of Trustees began meeting in the spring of 2009 and 501c3 status was achieved in the spring 2010. Classes were first held in August 2011 in a storefront in the 200 block of East Main.
Morthland College received authority from the state of Illinois to operate in October 2010 and was given degree granting authority in June 2011 for Biblical Studies/Classics, October 2011 for Business Administration, and December 2013 for Biological Sciences and CIS.
MC received Candidate Status Accreditation from the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) in April 2013 and Accredited Status in April 2014.
MC was granted approval to receive Title IV funds in December 2013.
All faculty at Morthland College have a minimum of an earned Master’s degree from a CHEA approved school, and most of our professors have a doctorate. In addition, all faculty and administration persons are required to sign their agreement to our Mission and Vision, Doctrinal Statement and Philosophy of Education.
