Morthland College joins the global #GivingTuesday movement
West Frankfort, Illinois (Oct. 19, 2016) – Morthland College has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. The College seeks donations to its Forging Futures Scholarship Campaign. Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
Morthland College seeks to raise $320,000 in annual, renewable scholarships for students athletes as part of the Forging Futures campaign. They will help expand academic opportunities for students like Jon Marc Girardeau, a senior business administration major from Mobile, Alabama, who was part of MC’s very first baseball team. Jon Marc was awarded the college’s inaugural Valley Forge Scholarship, which will be awarded annually to a senior business administration major in his final semester.
“I was excited about being on the first baseball team and starting a tradition I know will last a lifetime,” the Patriot said. “But the main reason I came to Morthland College was because it is a Christian school.”
As a part of his degree program, Jon Marc has become the first intern for Da Vinci Beverages, and he hopes to turn that into a job upon graduation.
In its sixth academic year, Morthland College has 100 students at its ground campus in West Frankfort, hailing from nearly 20 different states. The college is 21 percent of its way to its annual goal of raising $320,000 for the Forging Futures campaign, with $68,500 in scholarships raised. Donors may designate criteria for their scholarship and make it a one-time award, a renewable award, or an endowed scholarship fund.
